Altitude: 3050 m.a.s.l.

An extinct volcano, Mt.
Nemrut ascends to 3050 m.
It is  rising from the
Southwestern shore of Lake
Van and entering the
district of Ahlat to the
North. Mt. Nemrut is the
Southern-most and youngest of the chain of
volcanos in Eastern
Anatolia. A strato-type
volcano, it began erupting
during the fourth
geological era and
continued to be active until
1441 A.D.

As a result of the volcanic
eruptions of Mt. Nemrut
the single Van-Mus river
basin was divided into two
seperate basins. The
outflaw of Lake Van was
blocked, and became large
an highly alkaline. The
Nemrut lake water is cool,
fresh and clean.

Poplar, maple, oak,
cherries, juniper, willow
herb, thistle, stinging
nettle and wild briar.
Here is a natural sauna –
kind of hot steamy spring.
Unfortunately space for
only one person at a time.
In a small bay there is a
real hot spring - water as
hot as for boiling eggs. Or
frogs. Some frogs
forgetting to test the
temperature by their toes
before jumping into. They
are floating boiled around.
